The Hindu community in Sindh celebrated Diwali — the festival of lights — with great enthusiasm and devotion on Monday. The day was marked by the traditional exchange of sweets, gifts, and new clothes, while the evening came alive with the glow of oil lamps, candles, and dazzling fireworks that illuminated the night sky.
Sindh Sparkles with Diwali Festivities
From Hyderabad to Karachi, temples and homes were adorned with colourful Rangoli designs, flickering earthen lamps (diyas), and vibrant decorations. Families and children gathered to light firecrackers and sparklers, while the air was filled with music and joy.
At Hyderabad’s Durga Shiva Mandir, a local band performed in front of the brightly lit temple, as groups of young girls celebrated by lighting fireworks. Meanwhile, in Karachi’s Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, devotees offered prayers and lit lamps, symbolising the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil.
Governor House Hosts Diwali Celebration
A special Diwali programme was also organised at the Sindh Governor House in Karachi. Governor Kamran Tessori joined the Hindu community in cutting a festive cake and extending warm greetings.
He praised the spirit of interfaith harmony, saying, “The Hindu community lives peacefully in Pakistan and enjoys full rights. Even within the Governor House, we have Hindu staff members and a temple for their worship.”
CM Murad Ali Shah Extends Diwali Greetings
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah also conveyed his heartfelt wishes to the Hindu community, expressing pride in Sindh’s culture of inclusivity and mutual respect.
In his message, he said, “Sindh is a land of peace, tolerance and love, where people of all faiths freely celebrate their religious festivals. I wish our Hindu brothers and sisters a joyous and prosperous Diwali.”
A Celebration of Light and Togetherness
As families came together to share sweets and gifts, and the night skies of Sindh glittered with fireworks, Diwali once again highlighted Pakistan’s vibrant multicultural spirit and the enduring message of hope, light, and unity.
